More About Sil!

My Why

I always wanted to become a writer since I was a little girl. Reading gave me an opportunity to go places I had never been physically before, to feel hope and experience joy, so I wanted to share this hope and joy with others.

Writing gives me a voice and I wanted to use this powerful tool to empower children to have a voice, to be seen and heard. I like to say Let Kids R.E.I.G.N in Lit. which stands for  Represented- Engaged- Informed- Guided- Nurtured. A book needs to have these components because the reader needs mirrors to see themselves in great light and to hold a reader’s interest till the end of the story. The extension of the influence of a book can be for a long time.

My Education

As a 2012 graduate with a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and ESOL endorsement, 2017 graduate with a masters degree in Curriculum and instruction major in Curriculum Development from Florida International University. I have teaching experience from k-5th as a substitute and lead teacher k-1. I also have experience as an international educator teaching ESOL and education technology in Brazil for grades pre-k -5th and adult ESOL education. I have had the opportunity to loop to first grade with my kindergarten class at a charter school and it was the most wonderful experience I could ask for.
